Wardown Park Bandstand opening day | Luton Borough Council
Did you know that Luton used to have its own bandstand in Wardown park, it was demolished around 1950’s. I’ve been told that Wardown Park was a very popular location back in the day with boats on the lake (River Lea) and regular concerts on the bandstand a lot of Lutonians used to enjoy their picnics and family days out to the park. While the location is still as popular I think everybody will agree that it’s lovely to see (pedal) boats and bandstand making their apperance back to the park and lake.
It’s great to see these things are being brought back to Wardown Park again. It has taken four years to complete, but the Rotary Bandstand for Luton is now up and running, and has hosted its first concert in Wardown Park.
Luton’s four Rotary clubs worked together set up a charity, the Rotary Bandstand for Luton Trust, to commission, build and gift a new bandstand in the park for the local community.
A rejuvenated bandstand in Luton is set to play its part in a cultural programme of events, this year, including some non-musical activities.
I was commissioned by Luton Borough Council to document the opening day. Weather was glorious and it was a fantastic day for a picnic and some live music.
