Dundu - The Giants of Light | Revoluton Arts
Recently I teamed up with Revoluton Arts who were hosting DUNDU – a five metre tall light puppet who led a parade of people into the town centre, along with his smaller ‘younger brother’ Baby DUNDU.
It was a partnership with FESTIVAL.ORG and its Global Streets programme, supporting Revoluton Arts in bringing world-class international outdoor arts to the streets of Luton.
I was documenting the preparation talks as well as the big finale a day later. It was a very challenging event to photograph. Very dark and fast paced, and the dancers where moving very quickly so it was tricky at times but I think my photos do their justice.
The parade started off at Bury Park community centre with a baby Dundu leading us to wake up the big Dundu. We then marched together to St George’s square in Luton Town centre. It was so amazing to see people peeking through their windows and noticing a giant glowing puppet. So many people joined us on our way to town centre. Kids were smiling, interacting with Dundu and playing with him. I always love to capture people’s reactions and this event gave me a lot of opportunities to do that. It was such a fun and happy event. It was actually second time I met Dundu and its’ handlers . I previously photographed them at Imagine Watford and remember very well how much I have enjoyed it. Once we got to town centre we enjoyed a series of young performers that Revoluton Arts has been working with. Actor Tiarnan Doherty was hosting the show. The artists included Next Generation Youth Theatre, musician LDDEA, Sad Face the Poet, and visually impaired Country and Western singer, Will Murgatroyd.
