Associations with place are very important to our sense of identity. Assumptions about the place can contribute to how we are treated and how we define ourselves.
After moving abroad from Poland and buying my own house in Bedfordshire I realized that this will be my new home. I caught myself on comparing certain places with my Polish home town. In ‘Landscapes of home’ series I photographed landscapes that felt familiar. I photographed them with analogue cameras - Zenit and Olympus Trip. I used these cameras because my parents used similar models to document my own childhood. I wanted these images to give an impression that they have been taken at the time when me and my family were not here. It was my attempt to overcome the sense of displacement experienced from living in a new location. In this project I focused on exploring childhood memories, nostalgia and the idea of place.
